Log Date: December 3, 2004 Location: Lake Worth, Florida In two days and counting...we will be (finally/hopefully) leaving the good ole US of A. Our plan, after much deliberation, is to head from Lake Worth, Fl through the Bahamas south between Haiti and Cuba and then south to the San Blas Islands, Panama. This is a total of about 1300 miles (@ about 5mph average speed). The San Blas Islands are just off the NE coast of the Caribbean side of Panama. We have everything stowed except for the 3 cases of soda, which are staring me in the face. I have no idea what to do with it. If it was beer I know we would consume it quickly and this would be a non-issue but soda...how much can you really drink? We spent the last few weeks provisioning (sailing lingo for "buying stuff") and then trying to find hidden spots on the boat to store it. You can never have enough spare parts or toilet paper. We are leaving port with 64 rolls of TP (more info than you needed or wanted to know I'm sure) but think about trying to stow that much in your home - let alone on a 40ft piece of fiberglass. We made our way to the liquor store to pick up the required Blackberry Brandy. It is our sailing tradition that when heading offshore we offer Neptune a little "NIP" of brandy - it is suppose to bring good weather (AKA fair winds and following seas). So now we have Brandy for Neptune and GIN (the fish previously drank all the Vodka) to kill the "cute little fishes". Maybe we need to have our heads examined? We were able to do a book exchange with other yachties in the harbor so we will leave port with all new reading material (we burn through 2-3 books a week). The big news is that we were able to exchange some of our old DVD's that were in the class of "can't watch this again" for new ones. We didn't give up our copy of "South Pacific" though because one can never see it too many times en route there... We will attempt to keep you updated as to our progress offshore - we are hoping to be in Panama in 10-12 days from departing Florida. Wish us fair winds and following seas... Enjoying Life Onboard.
