Location: Hanammoenoa Bay on Tahuata, Marquesas

We are now in Hanammoenoa Bay on Tahuata, Marquesas after a grueling 2 1/2 hr sail.  There are only 3 other boats in this anchorage.  Water is very clear and blue with a nice sandy beach.  This is a big contrast to Atuona where the water was a dirty green because of river runoff. Atuona was also a very crowded anchorage.

We are awaiting some parts that are being flown in.  Raymarine is sending our new autopilot pin for free and believe it or not, Lewmar is also sending a new windlass for free.  The one they sent to us in February crapped out on us.  A screw that holds one of the primary gears was loose and buggered up the motor pinion gear.  We've cobbled a temporary solution until the new one comes in so Susan doesn't have to bulk up too much hauling the anchor up.

The South Pacific is a wee bit different compared to what is written in the cruising guides and the books cruisers have written.  In the past 5-10 years, technology has made its way to even the remotest of islands and villages.  Satellite TV, cell phones and DVD's along with reliable inexpensive generators bring a distorted view of the western world.  Imagine if your only vision of the US is Desperate Housewives or the Sopranos!  Western technology trying to mingle with native cultures is not always a pretty picture.

We work hard to understand and respect the local cultures and be good international citizens rather than the loud tourist. We've gotten very good at pictionary and charades.

Will most likely stay here for a few nights and then off to Fatu Hiva.

Enjoying Life Onboard.
