Who We
Are...
We are
two women who met through a mutual friend and discovered we both
wanted to "sail around". We worked in corporate America with all the
hustle and bustle and stress. We wanted to see the world but not as a
traveler that flies in and stays at a hotel or resort. We wanted to meet
locals and learn of what it is like living remote and truly off the
grid. We wanted to see the uninhabited beauty that we saw only
saw on TV shows as a kid - Jacques Cousteau, Wild Kingdom,
National Geographic. We wanted to do this by boat. To challenge ourselves
personally, by making long passages-and because we could.
Susan - I started sailing Sunfish's as a kid, then moved up to Hobie
Cats and got involved in racing them. On a move to Boston I decided to
join a sailing club to learn more about sailing bigger boats and get
charter certified. One of the courses for the charter certification
was a weekend "cruise". The sail to Provincetown was an overnighter with
watch schedules, navigating the stars, and the sounds of the water
against the hull. I was hooked! Much better than getting all wet in a Hobie! I mean you could have hot coffee while underway-very civilized.
I decided then to buy my own boat. I loved
day sailing and week long cruises along the New England coast. I could
picture myself retiring and just cruising along the east
coast, Caribbean, and
the Bahamas. I had always thought it
would be too
hard and bold to just take off for the South Pacific. Meeting Laura and
realizing we shared a dream to "sail around" changed that thought just a
tad. We use the term "sail around" loosely because it mentally gives us
the flexibility to go where ever we feel like when ocean voyaging. Now
there were two of us. Although it still seemed a bit scary, at least we
were in it together, and our confidence grows with every mile logged.
Laura - Sailed for over 20 years. Sailed Marblehead and New England and
Cape Cod area. Grew up on the north shore of Boston. Worked as a sales
manager in the marine and textile industry. And... Always had the dream of
sailing off into the
sunset.
